This deer captured during the late fall, is stocking up on food for the winter ahead. Instinctively he knows that food will be more difficult to find when he needs it most. It seems he has a sense of how harsh the winter will be, and many experts (including farmers and local native tribes) claim that the depth of the coat varies in the fall depending how hard the winter is going to be. In the summer they live in the higher elevations, come fall they migrate to the warmer valleys for maximum protection.
