This photograph taken in the late fall in Zion Canyon, shows the first dusting of snow for the oncoming winter. The trees have already shed their leaves and the warm glow of the setting sun lights the canyon walls with saturated reds, purples and oranges, giving a contrast to the blues reflected from the snow and water in the shadow areas. Within weeks snow will blanket the whole area giving a totally different ambiance to the scene. Deer and other animals will migrate to these locations for shelter and food in the depth of the winter time as this gives them protection from the cold, the river in the foreground provides water for the season, as it is unusual for it to freeze over.
