This cacti locally named strawberry hedghog cactus, or Echinocereus angelamannii for the learned; grows prolifically in the Utah, Arizona and California desert regions. It always grows in clusters with up to twenty in a group being normal. It’s flowers are one of the closest colors to pure magenta found in nature, it’s blooms are about 3 – 3 ½” long and the flowers bloom from April in the south until late May in the northern deserts. They are often used for ornamental additions to low water gardens and landscapes. They require a high level of sunlight in the summer to thrive.
