Here we have an example of a structure, which helped many survive around the world in severe climates. It is a dugout house, it has been excavated into a small hillside, where the roof is made of timbers covered with an old wagon canvas top, and then soil and seeds were spread to increase the thermal insulation. It is kept warm using a stove, with the chimney sticking out of the dirt roof. This dugout was one used by Butch Cassidy and his gang, as a winter hideout, and still stands today to remind us of times past.
