This is one of the mountains within the Arizona strip. This is a part of Arizona, cut off from the rest of the State by the Grand Canyon. This area is one of the most populated areas for lumber in the region, early settlers had seven saw mills here and would haul their lumber with ox carts along some of the roughest and steep trails for over 45 miles. This was one of the roughest and difficult trails to follow, and even today the ruts cut into the rocks by the iron rimed wheels of the carts can easily been seen in a number of locations. As with most desert travel high clearance 4 wheel drives good maps and GPS and a number of spare tiers are a wise choice I have seen some have as many as 4 flat tires on a single trip, and it is a long hike to go for help, with little or no mobile phone coverage.
