This is the canyon where the oldest rocks in Capitol Reef are exposed. It has been cut by the Sulphur Creek, which is usually dry, but with rain and snowmelt, the canyon is cut by rocks and sand scouring the canyon bottom; flash floods are common in the area, and present a danger to any hikers who are in the canyon bottom. At some locations the cliffs are steep and only a few feet wide, forming a slot canyon. This hike is not an official route and requires scrambling down three waterfalls, with a drop of 12 feet in the worst case. The hike is 5.5 miles and requires parking a vehicle at each end, or a 3-mile walk along the highway to return to the starting point.
