This Desert Spiny Lizard has scales which all have very sharp points; one of the main cautions with these is they have very strong jaws and can do a lot of soft flesh damage if you are bitten by one. One of its favorite pastimes is to sunbathe on rocks or branches; this is often done in temperatures above 115 degrees; but it hibernates in the cooler weather of the winter months, reappearing again in the spring to enjoy the heat of the desert. Most of its diet consists of insects, with a little plant material.
