This strangely named elevated plateau is at 5,900 feet, and is over 2,000 feet above the Colorado River; it got its name from an incident which is reputed to have occurred over 120 years ago; some wild mustangs were trapped on the plateau, it is thought that local cowboys may have corralled them there and either forgot or were unable to get back to release them. So during the winter they died. As with most legends there are a number of variations of the story, but this is where it got its name. It is located in an area rich with incredible scenery, but to get the best views, some hiking is necessary; this is made more difficult because of the elevation.
