At The Hideout 28 X 20

This old water wheel is part of the buildings in Browns Park where Butch Cassidy and his gang The Wild Bunch would use as a winter hideout. It was in a remote part of Wyoming, which is still difficult to travel to, even today; the entrance is through a canyon, which is steep and narrow. It was ideal for a hideout, as one person hiding on the ridge above could defend the trail even with a number of people trying to enter the valley below, the narrow path required horses and riders to travel single file; and at the same time the path was in a very exposed location. Because of this defensive position, most lawmen avoided trying to enter the hideout, preferring instead to try to apprehend the gang when they left during the spring.
